Is Your Fat Point Determined By Your Genes?

Many people think everybody has a preset fat point. This means at some stage the body reaches a predetermined optimal fat level. This idea has been followed for a long time but is in fact wrong.

We all develop our own fat point based on our lifestyles.

Your genes will dictate the shape of your body, for example your height, your shoulder width and your leg length. But they will not dictate how much fat your body packs on. This is not hereditary, it comes from the lifestyle you have adopted and the foods you have eaten since you were born.

If you have been over eating for a long period of time and you have remained at a specific fat percentage for quite some time then that becomes your new fat point. And that can change up or down according to the lifestyle that you choose to lead.

If you have remained at a particular fat point for a year or two then your body will develop all the necessary requirements in the form of capillaries, connective tissues, hormonal levels and so on to support that point.

It wasn’t genes that did it. It was you that determined your fat point. Your body only wants to keep things balanced.

Now your body will always be monitoring that fat point. Perhaps you decide to go on a crash diet course. Your body will see this as an attack on the nice status quo it has developed and it will try to correct the situation. Very often the body burns lean muscle to keep fat.

Still many people prefer to believe that their weight problems are the result of genetics. For them it becomes easier when they feel the situation is beyond their control.

The fact is that everyone is capable of lowering their fat point through changing their lifestyle. You need to build lean muscle tissue and increase your metabolism. Eating more healthily and exercising regularly will lower your fat point.
